This course is for people who are required to operate mobile cranes for lifting operations on construction site and other allied industries. Candidates may be new to the role or may be those with limited experience and no formal training. The course lasts 10 days.

The course enables candidates to understand the role and responsibility of the mobile crane operator. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to rig and de-rig a truck mounted crane on blocked duties, operate the crane to lift, transfer and position loads and carry out routine maintenance.

  • Legislation : LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA, codes of practice
  • Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations
  • Crane appreciation: crane types, capabilities and limitations
  • Duty charts
  • Crane terminology
  • Documentation and certification for lifting equipment and lifting accessories
  • Crane stability/ground conditions
  • Safe Load Indicators and Safe Working Loads
  • Lifting accessories, types of accessories and use
  • Sling angles
  • Communications
  • Rigging and de-rigging of cranes according to written instructions
  • Configuring cranes according to work specifications
  • Hoisting, slewing and derricking following the instruction of the slinger/signaller
  • Controlling load movement
  • Routine maintenance

Courses are held either on your site (subject to suitability) or at one of our dedicated training centres. We have centres at Pulborough and Billingshurst. You can view the courses are running now by viewing our diary.

Training at all levels of competency is available. We provide training and assessment for Specialist Plant and Machinery Operations at NVQ Level 2 and Intermediate certificate level - leading to CPCS card status. We can also provide courses registered with IPAF, PASMA and ALLMI. Alternatively certification 'in-house', or from our training partners can be provided.
