Winching techniques
This course will enable you to fully understand the winching operation, and the hazards involved.
There is always the potential for personal injury when you are involved in winching. This course covers the specific precautions you should take to minimize those risks.
Specific components of the course
- The components of the winch and how the winch works
- How the winch reacts to load
- How to prepare for a winching operation
- Hand signals to be used when two people or more are involved in a winching operation
- How to control the winch, including the use of remote controls
- The use of snatch blocks to
- alter the pulling direction
- increase the pulling power - Maintenance of a winch and the vehicle it is attached to

Courses are held either on your site (subject to suitability) or at one of our dedicated training centres. We have centres at Pulborough and Billingshurst. Training at all levels of competency is available. We provide training and assessment for Specialist Plant and Machinery Operations at NVQ Level 2 and Intermediate certificate level - leading to CPCS card status. We can also provide courses registered with IPAF, PASMA and ALLMI. Alternatively certification 'in-house', or from our training partners can be provided.
