Contract Lifting from Southern Cranes & Access, West Sussex and Surrey

In general, any organisation requiring a load to be lifted and moved, which does not own its own crane, has two basic options:

Hiring a crane (Crane Hire) or employing a contractor to carry out the lifting operation (Contract Lift)

Crane Hire should only be undertaken by individuals or organisations that can satisfy the crane owner that they have sufficient knowledge, experience and training in performing a lifting operation safely.

If an individual/organisation does not have the expertise in lifting operations, does not have the correctly-trained personnel or just wishes to take the worry out of completing a detailed lifting operation and insurance arrangements themselves, then Southern Cranes can help with our contract lift crane hire services. We can provide a comprehensive contract solution with an emphasis on safety. For more information on Southern Crane’s contract lifting services, contact our friendly staff on 01403 790874.

Crane hire

The hiring individual or organisation requiring a load to be lifted must:

  • carry out all work as per British Standard 7121 'Safe use of cranes' and LOLER (Lifting Operation & Lifting Equipment Regulations)
  • supply a qualified Appointed Person to plan and oversee the works
  • ensure that the crane hired is of a suitable type and capacity
  • write a method statement (lifting plan), risk assessment etc. to ensure the lift is carefully planned and carried out
  • have adequate and appropriate insurance cover
  • check the credentials and certifications of the crane hire company
