This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrated 70 years of Porsche motor cars. Southern Cranes were hired by Littlehampton Welding to erect this year’s iconic centrepiece sculpture which featured six examples of different Porsche models from different eras and backgrounds.
The sculpture stood 52 metres high and weighed 30 tonnes in total. Southern Cranes used its Liebherr LTM1450 (450 tonne) mobile crane to erect the heaviest central section which weighed 22 tonnes.

Centrepiece lift at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The Liebherr LTM1450 has arrived!
Our brand new Liebherr LTM1450 has now arrived and is available to hire. Our operatives have spent the last two weeks completing their induction on this state of the art machine and are now keen to test its full operational potential. For a heavy crane it is highly versatile and far quicker to rig/de-rig than many of its competitors. It boasts an 85-metre main boom and the potential for an 84-metre luffing fly jib. It incorporates Liebherr’s ‘Vario base’ outrigger system and ‘Vario-ballast’ to reduce the tail swing and axle loadings. For further information please call 01403 790874.

Tandem lift at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
Once again Southern Cranes were given the responsibility for the erection and dismantling of the centre-piece sculpture at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. Lifting the top half of the main structure required a tandem lift using a Grove MK5250 and a Terex AC120. This year's sculpture celebrated the career of ex-F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone.
